Chineme Martins! We failed you, but continue to rest in peace.

On seeing the videos and pictures of emergency intervention given to you before you finally passed on, I just could not help, because it is starring us on our faces that the system and low health literacy played a major role.

The answer to how the system failed you includes:

✔ Lack of sport first-aid kit which should contain CPR flashcards and other lifesaving devices.

✔ Poor crowd control during the incident.

✔ No proper CPR given or the videos did not capture the procedure.

✔ The supposed ambulance looked more like a taxi and lack the facilities to keep the injured person in the desired convalescent position to curtail the progression of the illness.

As we await the autopsy, it remains a difficult medical challenge to prevent the sudden cardiac death of athletes, typically defined as natural, unexpected death within an hour of the onset of collapse symptoms, excluding additional time on mechanical life support. Readiness of emergency team and increase in health education would have done the magic as the thin line between life and death is just a matter of seconds.

We just lost a defender who would have made history like Benedict Iroha, Taribo West, Uche Alozie Okechukwu, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi, Chukwu Okoro etc.

Pharmarbiter's Note:

🤷‍♀️It is not out of place for you to sight the paramedics or medical team before such sport starts off.

🤷‍♀️ CPR is a basic skill everyone should be empowered to have in other to save life whenever need arises.

🤷‍♀️Listen to your system and know when to call it a quit for any given task.
